Wausau Area Chamber of Commerce Business Expo
Brandon's Champions had a booth at this year's expo to make area business aware of the resources we have. During the course of the year we attend a number of health fairs, safety day events, bike rodeos, etc. We welcome the opportunity to talk to employees about the importance of carrying identification when riding bike, walking and other activities.
A number of great contacts were made with area clinics. hospital and business people.
Thank you to Norm Schultz of Century 21 Tri City Realty for helping from set-up to take down that day!

Cold Stone Creamery, Appleton
Sweet Event Raises $875 For Brandon’s Champions
Combine yummy Cold Stone Creamery Ice Cream and a great cause like Brandon’s Champions and you’ve got a recipe for fantastically fun fundraising!
Nearly 200 people converged at the Cold Stone Creamery store on east Calumet Street to sample their favorite Cold Stone treat at the 2nd Annual Brandon’s Champions Night on Tuesday, March 28. Dozens of custom creations were served up by special “celebrity scoopers” from Sunrise Elementary and JR Gerritts Middle School in Kimberly. This year’s super duper scoopers were Donna Peloza, Debbie Schroeder, Jennifer Basler, Kris Graff, Jenny Hughson, Kelly Janssen and Chad Verboomen.
Once she got over her initial rookie “scooper anxiety,” 5K teacher Jennifer Basler said she had a blast creating the sweet treats for her current and former students. “This is such a great way to have fun and raise funds to help spread the word about the importance of bike and helmet safety,” said Jennifer.
Brandon’s Champions was founded by the family and friends of Brandon J. Fochs of Appleton. Brandon was involved in a bike/vehicle accident on July 15, 2003. He was not killed instantly because he wore his helmet- as he always did. However, Brandon was not carrying identification so it took police and medical personnel precious hours to locate his parents. Brandon died on July 20 as a result of lung injuries. He was two months shy of his fourteenth birthday
Rose and Joe Fochs, parents of Brandon, thanked the community for its support. “We want to thank everyone who made this event such a success,” said Rose. “From our family, friends and neighbors, to the Kimberly schools administration, teachers and Cold Stone staff ---we appreciate all you’ve done for Brandon’s Champions. Thanks for helping us spread the word that everyone—kids and adults— need to wear helmets and carry identification at all times.”
One hundred and eighty-five medical information ID kits were given away and 12 lucky prize winners received helmets, shirts and ice cream treats.
The mission of Brandon’s Champions is to promote bicycle and helmet safety as well as to promote an easy-to-use identification system to help authorities identify children in an emergency situation.

Silent Auction/ Fundraiser in Appleton, WI
I wanted to inform you all of a date I would love for you to reserve on your
calendars!! It will benefit an organization near and dear to us all!
The Mid-Day Chapter of Business and Professional Women will be holding its
annual Silent Auction & Drawing on Wed., Dec. 7, at the Radisson Paper Valley
Hotel.
The main focus in 2005 is protecting and helping children, which in turn helps
and protects families. The majority of the proceeds from this event will be
donated equally between two local, but very important organizations. Those
groups are Youth Educated in Safety (Y.E.S.) and Brandon's Champions, with the
remainder used to send a high school girl to Trees for Tomorrow camp and to fund
local scholarships through the Mid-Day Foundation.
Y.E.S. was founded in September 1994 following the abduction, assault, and
murder of 12-year-old Cora Jones. Concerned community individuals and friends
and families of Cora Jones, Amy Breyer and Laurie Depies developed a task force.
Y.E.S empowers children with the skills and abilities to protect themselves, and
assist in the search for and recovery of missing children.
The family and friends of Brandon J. Fochs of Appleton founded Brandon's
Champions. Brandon was involved in a bike/vehicle accident on July 15, 2003, and
had no form of identification on him. Brandon's Champions is a non-profit
organization dedicated to promoting bicycle/helmet safety and emergency medical
information carrier systems.
BPW is a national organization dedicated to the professional development and
advancement of women in the workplace. Our local BPW Chapter has a membership of
more than 50 women. We expect attendance at this year's Silent Auction to exceed
140 individuals.
The cost to attend is $12 in advance and $20 at the door, and includes a light
hors d'oeuvres cocktail reception, wine tasting, and door prizes. We also offer
the option for groups to purchase a corporate table (10 individuals) for $100.
